THE BACHELOR OF ARTS IN POLITICAL SCIENCE
AMERICAN POLITICS 

Students interested in the American Politics field should plan their course of study in consultation with 
Dr. Loren Gatch, the advisor for this field of study. An outline of the program is provided below. 
 
I. Core Requirements
9 Hrs
POL 2103 Elements of Political Science
POL 2013 Information Management in PLTSC
POL 4993 *Democratic Governance [The Capstone Course]
*Students should schedule this course during the semester prior to graduation.
 
II. The American Politics field
27 Hrs
A. The field Core - 9 Hrs.
POL 1203 State & Local Government
POL 2213 Campaigns and Elections
POL 4123 The Congress 

B. Guided Electives - 18 Hrs.
The Political Science Department offers a number of courses related to American Politics. Any of those listed below can be taken to fulfill the guided elective requirement for the American Politics field. Other courses may be suitable if prior approval is received from the Advisor.*

III. Related Electives
18 Hrs
The department encourages you to select courses in related areas with the remainder of the elective hours you have. Courses selected should support the objectives of a Liberal Arts Education and of the B.A. in Political Science. You are encouraged to consider courses from such disciplines as History, Economics, the Humanities, English, Philosophy, and Geography. Please consult with your advisor before enrolling.
