Mission

To communicate the views of a diverse group of political scientists on the political environments of state policy making in a comprehensive, systematic, and unbiased manner.

Function

Conduct occasional surveys of members to assess the political environment of public policy making in Oklahoma.  Summary results are issued as a press release, with more detailed presentation and analysis of results provided in the Oklahoma Policy Studies Review (print and electronic version).

Membership

By invitation of the OLPS Advisory Council, with the only qualification being formal graduate education (or equivalent work experience) in political science or government.  Membership will be drawn from the public and private sectors as well as academia.  There are no fees or dues.

Organization

An Advisory Council, consisting of at least five members with two year terms, will be charged primarily with deciding what issues will be surveyed as well as the appropriate wording of questions appearing on surveys.  OLPS members may at any time propose issues to the Council.  After the first year, one-half of the remaining Council members will selection new Council members to replace the departing half of the Council.

Benefits

Members gain the opportunity to participate in important state public policy dialogues through surveys and other forms of communication.
