Recent internship opportunities include the following:


Hendricks and Associates Consulting is seeking interns for help in the 2006 election cycle.  Specializing in progressive politics, Hendricks and Associates Consulting is a multi-faceted political consulting firm based in Oklahoma City.  Services include general strategy, voter database management, targeting, grass roots organization, petition signature gathering, website material, political material design, and traditional political campaigns.  Although most of these internships are unpaid, willing to help place qualified and hard working individuals into paid campaign positions and consulting positions throughout the 2006 election cycle.  If interested, please contact Dr. Kickham for more details, or contact the firm directly at hendricksconsulting@cox.net or phone Russell Griffin at (405) 684-6699.


The Senate Service Staff Division of the Oklahoma State Legislature is seeking a limited number of students for Spring Semester 2006 internships.  Juniors, seniors, or graduate students in political science or other social science with a GPA of 3.0 or above are preferred.  The time commitment is for February through the month of May.  Deadline for application has been extended until the position is filled.  Please contact Dr. Kickham for further information or Fran Little, Intern Coordinator for the Oklahoma State Senate 405/530-2353 or email at little@oksenate.gov for further information.


Ernest Istook's downtown office is looking for interns.  They are willing to work around student schedules.  Interns will primarily work with the Communications Manager helping with correspondence and other communications.  If interested, contact Kristen Cox at (405) 234-9900 or email at  kristen.cox@mail.house.gov.

The National Federation of Republican Assemblies is looking for interns for the Fall and Spring semesters.  Interested students can contact Richard Engle, the organization's president, directly at (405) 640-9219 or at president@gopwing.com.  The hours would be very flexible.
Oklahoma State Senate Communications Division is seeking an intern for the Spring 2006.  Interested Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students are invited to apply by contacting Fran Little at 405/530-2353 or by email at little@oksenate.gov.

  • To apply for or have questions about a legal internship please contact Dr. Keith Eakins, Liberal Arts Office 102H, or E-mail: keakins@ucok.edu.Note: Students applying for a legal internship must arrange the internship themselves with the law firm or governmental agency of their choosing. 
  • Internship Requirements
    Students may earn Political Science credit for successfully completing an internship program. In order to receive academic credit, interns must complete each of the following: 
    1. Work five (5) hours per week for every one (1) hour of credit that is being sought 
    2. Submit a verified time sheet at the end of the semester
    3. Meet regularly with the faculty director to discuss the intern's progress 
    4. Submit a final written report to the faculty director at the end of the semester 
    5. Obtain an evaluation from the supervisor at the organization where the intern worked 

    Note: While most internships are not paid, many interns have gone on to secure jobs in the organizations where they interned.
     
  • How to Apply for a Political Science Internship
    Step One: Fill out an application form and submit it to the department along with your resume and a copy of your transcript.
    Step Two: The department will evaluate each application and notify you of your acceptance.
    Step Three: After receiving notification from the department, an interview will need to be scheduled with the organization for which you are applying.
    Step Four: Each organization will conduct interviews and notify the department as to the individuals they wish to have intern with them.
    Step Five: To earn credit for your internship you must complete a "Permission to Enroll" form and have it signed by the PLTSC Department Internship Coordinator and the PLTSC Department Chair.
    Step Six: Take your signed "Permission to Enroll" form and enroll in your internship through the university's enrollment center.
