Review for Final Examination

Wednesday, May 5, 11:00 AM -12:50 PM

 

The final examination will be comprised of several multiple choice questions, short answer questions, and one or two essay questions in which you will have some choice to respond.  The test is comprehensive but will primarily emphasize Chapters 9 through 15 in Dubrin's Leadership, Covey's Seven Habits, student presentation on leadership biographies, and your class lecture notes.  You do not need to bring a Scantron sheet.  Read your textbooks, review your class notes, and then try to answer the following questions to see how well you have mastered the material.

Draw the distinction between effective leaders and successful leaders.

Know the difference among the movitational theories:  Theory X, Theory Y, and Theory Z.

What is the psychological term for shirking individual responsibility in a team setting?

What is groupware and what benefits does it promise?

Know the difference among the leader-member exchange model and expectancy theory.

Describe coaching as a leadership strategy.

Know the various types of brainstorming techniques.

What is action learning?

What is the difference between single-loop and double-loop learning?

How would you apply the five major styles of conflict management as identified by Kenneth Thomas?

What is total quality management?  What are some of its current incarnations?  What role do leaders play in TQM?

How would you describe your leadership style?

Using the leadership concepts that you have learned in this course, be able to compare and contrast two of the leaders as presented in the student biography presentations along a dimension that they share in common (for example music, children, community service, politics, sports, etc.).
