Getting a Job With Your Political Science Degree

Political science is one of the most popular undergraduate liberal arts majors, yet at some point students confront the same pointed question: But what do I do with this major? What career opportunities are open to someone with a BA in political science? There is no single path to riches, professional fulfillment, or whatever other goal a person sets for him or herself. However, if you choose to major in political science, a number of career options become plausible, given the interests you express by choosing the major, and the knowledge, analytical and communications skills you gain by doing well in a political science curriculum.

In thinking seriously about what you want to do with you degree, this website is just a start. It is meant to get you thinking about your career options by describing some of the typical careers political science majors have followed. There are no job listings here. It’s not exhaustive, nor even very detailed. There are many other resources available, both in print and on the internet. Some of these other resources are listed on the pages describing a particular career possibility. I also encourage students to look at the websites of other colleges and universities, to see how they describe political science careers.
