Why Study French?

French influence and francophone cultures are found all over the world. The insights gained by our majors serve them well in education, business, travel and government service.

French art and history present some of the most fascinating subjects one could study, having formed the backbone of many modern concepts of culture. Study French with UCO and become civilized!

French Major Requirements

Elementary French   0-8 Hours
FRCH 1114 Elementary French I  
FRCH 1224 Elementary French II  
A maximum of eight hours of credit for Elementary French may be earned by examination. Alternatively, one (1) year of high school French may be substituted for French 1114 and one (1) more year of high school French for 1224. The Departmental Placement Test, when available, may allow the student to place into a section of FRCH 2223.
Elementary additional language   0-8 Hours
The same testing or placement conditions apply here as for Elementary French.

*FRCH 1114, 1224, 2113 & 2223 are offered each fall and spring semester with both day and evening sections. Elementary level classes are additionally offered in the summer semester. Depending on enrollment, Intermediate level or elective French classes may be offered in the summer semester, also.

 

*Additional 2000-4000 level elective classes in French may be offered as departmental resources allow.

 

*French study tours may be taken for French credit. The number of credit hours varies depending on individual tour. Partial scholarships are available for study tours. Contact the Liberal Arts Dean’s office at 974-5540 for scholarship application information.

 

*Most 4000 level classes and some 3000 level classes may also be taken at the graduate level. Please contact the Modern Languages Department if you need a 5000 level class that is not already listed in the class schedule.
