Dr. Woody Gaddis, 72, a longtime professor of
photography at the University of Central Oklahoma, died on Monday,
March 24. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 2005. Gaddis built the premier four-year photography program in the state at Central Oklahoma. The ultimate professional, he was constantly taking photographs and keeping abreast of the latest in photographic technology in teaching. He earned his journalism degree at the University of Tulsa in 1959 while working as a staff photographer at the Tulsa Daily World (1955-1963 and 1966-1969). He joining Central State as university photographer and instructor, and built the photo program from a single class offering in 1969 to the current full photo degree sequence. A dedicated teacher, he coached countless students to successful careers in photojournalism. He continued his academic preparation by earning a master's degree at UCO in 1973 and his doctorate at Oklahoma State University in 1979 and served UCO and the photographic industry by serving on many committees and by conducting professional workshops. |
