4033 STARTING YOUR OWN BUSINESS.  A course focusing on the experiences and problems faced by those who go into business for themselves and successful solution achieved by representative business.

4113 TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE.  This course provides the theoretical and practical foundations for teaching English as a second language. Upon completion, students will demonstrate a proficiency in utilizing ESL methodology, managing an ESL classroom and in developing and adapting supplementary materials for ESL instruction.

4123 FOUNDATIONS OF BILINGUAL/MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION.  This course provides an overview of the history, philosophy, typology, and development of bilingual/multicultural education, including legal aspects of federal and state involvement.
 

The Department of Library Media Education (LME)

2103 REFERENCE AND BIBLIOGRAPHY.  Survey of basic references in each subject division; practice in reference methods and sources. Study of basic tools, methods of research, and bibliographical sources.
 

The Department of Human Environmental Sciences (FAMCD)

2213 CHILD DEVELOPMENT.  The study of normal growth and development of the preschool child, the schooled child, and the adolescent with special emphasis on physical, mental, emotional
and social needs. No prerequisites.

4092 MIDDLE CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT.  Looks at the physical, mental, social and emotional development of the child from 6-12.

4242 ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT.  Intensive study of preadolescents and adolescents with observations of the physical, intellectual, social and emotional development of the child from 12-20. Pre: FAMCD 2213.
 

The Department of Family And Consumer Science Education (FCSED)

3633 PROBLEMS OF TODAY'S CONSUMER.  The economics aspects of purchasing for the consumer, including consumer credit, protective agencies, principles of consumer choice, consumer services and the family as a center for consumer education.

4453 CONSUMER MANAGEMENT.  This course is designed to provide a framework for examining the key areas of personal and family financial decision-making, and the relationship of course content to home economics education.

4513 HOME MANAGEMENT.  The study of effective management concerning values and goals as reflected in decision-making about personal and family resources.
 

The Department of Nutrition (NUTRN)

1513 INTRODUCTION TO NUTRITION.  A study of the aspects of nutrition in relation to physical development and health. Course studies the essentials for an adequate diet; functions of the nutrients and their requirement by different age groups.
 

The Department of Occupational And Technology Education (OCTED)

4332 HUMAN RELATIONS IN TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT.  This course will examine the role of human relations in organizations with particular emphasis on the training and development function. Topics addressed include communications, attitudes, positive self-concept, positive reinforcement, team building, and conflict management.

4523 COMPUTER TOOLS.  Personal computer (PC) procurement and utilization including use
of an integrated software package.
 

The Department of Psychology (PSYCH)

1203 PSYCHOLOGY OF PERSONALITY.  The purpose of this course is to translate psychological theory and research to everyday life. It will also aid the students in identifying practices and attitudes that lead toward greater mental health.
 

The Department of Teachers Education (TCHED)

4133 CHILD PSYCHOLOGY.  A study of behavior in infancy and childhood including survey of the social, cultural and biological factors associated with various kinds of cultural behavior.

4153 ADOLESCENT PSYCHOLOGY.  A study of the physical growth, glandular changes and emotions of adolescents including interests, religious experiences, and social adjustments.

2693 A SURVEY OF BLACK AMERICAN FICTION.  This course will involve a study of the significant fiction produced by black writers in the 20th century.

2713 SURVEY OF BLACK AMERICAN POETRY, DRAMA. AND NONFICTION.  This course will involve
a study of significant black contributions in the areas of poetry, drama, and nonfiction from the 17th century to the present.

3643 AMERICAN INDIAN LITERATURE.  With their literature as its center, this course explores the art, ceremonies, history, religion and other parts of the tribal life of the American Indian.

4453 AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN WRITERS.  A survey of African-American women writers. In addition to slave narratives, writers included are Zora Neale Hurston, Terry McMillan, Toni Morrison, and Alice Walker. Pre: 6 hours grammar and composition.

4823 ETHNIC AMERICAN LITERATURE. This course deals with the literature of at least four identifiable American ethnic groups (those usually recognized by society in general or by the government). Emphasis is placed on social origin and literary genre of each group.

3403 GEOGRAPHY OF EAST AND SOUTH ASIA.  An intensive study of the of China, India, the Southeast Asian countries, and the island nations of Japan, the Philippines and Indonesia.

3593 GEOGRAPHY OF AFRICA: SOUTH OF THE SAHARA.  An intensive study of the desert and semidesert region and man's adaptations to these extreme climatic conditions .

4303 GEOGRAPHY OF MEXICO AND MIDDLE AMERICA.  An intensive study of the of Middle America.

History (HIST)
2033 THE AMERICAN INDIAN.  A study of the history and culture of North American Indians form
the Pre-Colombian period to the federal Indian policies of the 20th century.

4853 AFRICAN AMERICAN EXPERIENCE.  This course will broaden and deepen the student's knowledge about the African-American experience from its roots in Africa to current issues, developments, and perspectives. Through research, discussions, analysis, and appropriate examinations our students will be given multiple opportunities to become well prepared to be
critical thinkers and problem solvers, thereby positive contributing members of a multicultural, uplifting society.

4303 INDIANS OF THE SOUTHWEST.  A study of the social, cultural and intellectual history of the Indian of the American Southwest from prehistoric times to the present.

4513 HISTORY OF MEXICO.  The history of Mexico from the Aztec civilization until modern times. Emphasis is placed on the Aztecs, the conquest by Cortez, society under Spanish independence,
the Mexican revolution and post revolutionary Mexico. Pre., three hours of American History.

4543 THE BLACK EXPERIENCE IN THE AMERICAN WEST.  An examination of the black experience in the Trans-Mississippi from the 16th century to the late 20th century. Special attentions is devoted to the contributions of black people to the development of American culture as cowboys, farmers, laborers, and soldiers.

4743 MODERN CHINA AND JAPAN.  History of these major Asian powers since 1600 with emphasis on their cultures, the impact of the west, the industrialization of Japan and the revolutionary process
in China.

4863 THE HISTORY OF MODERN SOUTHEAST ASIA.  Traditional cultures and religions; impact of western colonialism; nationalist movements and formation of nations; development of representative governments; and contemporary roles in international relations.

3073 NATIVE AMERICAN HUMANITIES.  The study of the cultural accomplishment of the native Americans. The art, literature, music, and philosophies of various Indian tribes will be given equal emphasis to provide a comprehensive understanding of Native American cultures past and present. Pre., none.

4113 WORLD RELIGIONS.  World Religions is an interdisciplinary course that examines the diverse phenomena of humanity's various religious practices and beliefs. Cultural and intercultural parallels will be drawn, and similarities and differences distinguished. Through an exposure to the diverse means by which religions are made manifest, students will gain a broader contextual framework within which they may better understand both their own convictions and those of others.

Philosophy (PHIL)
1103 LOGIC AND CRITICAL THINKING.  Consideration is given to the requirements of correct reasoning with special emphasis on informal fallacies, syllogistic forms, and the analysis of extended arguments.

2073 SOCIAL AND POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY.  A study of the major theories of social justice and their implications for selected areas of public policy. Attention will be given to theories of natural law, social contract, and a variety of philosophical problems.

3583 URBAN AREA GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS.  A study of the proposed solutions for the intergovernmental problems of urban and metropolitan areas.

4023 CHINESE POLITICAL SYSTEM.  An analysis of the political system of the People's Republic
of China, with emphasis on the individuals, groups and governmental institutions which exert major influence upon policymaking.

4143 AFRICAN POLITICAL SYSTEMS.  A survey of the political systems of SubSaharan Africa including colonial influences, ethnicity, African political thought, political parties and liberation movements, comparison of various democratic, semi-democratic and authoritarian systems, and
the influence or outside powers today.

4403 POLITICAL SYSTEMS OF ASIA.  A study of the institutions and policymaking processes within the political systems of several major countries in Asia.
 

Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice Sociology (SOCIO)

2303 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY.  An integration of sociology and psychology stressing personality development of the individual growing out of contact with his fellow beings, social adjustments
and social controls.

3203 MINORITIES IN AMERICAN SOCIETY.  Understanding the concept of minority group and minority group behavior; understand the extent of the sociocultural reasons for prejudice and discriminations; examine contemporary dominant-social-psychological aspects of illness.
