I.  General

A. Textbook:  The American Promise: V. II by Roark, w/map workbook and Study Guide.

B. Your average on the weekly quizzes will constitute 1/5 of your final grade.  There will be no makeups on missed weekly quizzes.  If you take all of the quizzes, I will drop your 2 lowest grades.  You may miss 2 quizzes without penalty, but if you miss 3 or more you will receive F's for the missed quizzes.

C. Supplementary Reader:  The Social Fabric V.II, 7th ed. by John Cary.   See synopsis instructions.  Constitutes 1/5 of your final grade.

II. Midterm Exam
Your grade will constitute 1/5 of your final grade.  The exam will be over facts, concepts, and interpretations discussed in the lectures.

III. Final Exam
Your grade will constitute 2/5 of your final grade.  The exam will be over facts, concepts, and interpretations discussed in the lectures.  The exam will cover lectures delivered after the midterm exam.  Students who do not take the final exam will receive an F in the course.

IV. Attendance and notes
Students cannot do well in this class unless they attend class and take readable notes. Students are encouraged to read the text before coming to class and to rewrite their notes at the end of the week.

VI.  Students must receive a passing grade on three-fifths of  their work to pass
