Dr. Pamela Washington, Dean of UCO's College of Liberal Arts, recently announced the creation of the "Carol Hamilton Creative Writing Scholarship" to honor our friend and colleague Carol Hamilton.

Carol is an accomplished and highly respected writer, and she has been recognized both as Oklahoma's Poet Laureate and as a UCO Distinguished Former Student. Carol has also been the recipient of the Oklahoma Book Award and the Southwest Book Award.

Carol's family chose to endow a scholarship here at her alma mater, where she also taught for several years. The scholarship will help provide tuition assistance to enable an outstanding and deserving UCO Creative Writing graduate student to continue his or her education.

Please join us as we build a hub for creative writing here at UCO and pay tribute to an outstanding poet, writer, and storyteller. Your gift to the "Carol Hamilton Creative Writing Scholarship" will ensure that students have the opportunity to pursue their academic dreams and to follow in Carol's footsteps.

You can make a contribution today by visiting http://www.ucogiving.org and selecting "Give Now." In the "Gift Designation" field for the College of Liberal Arts, select the "Carol Hamilton Fund."

Every dollar contributed will be added to the scholarship endowment that bears Carol's name and will support students in UCO's Creative Writing program.

P.S. This fall UCO will enroll its first students in our new Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. This new program will undoubtedly draw top students from around the state and region -- students who will vie for precious and limited scholarship dollars.
