Some Tips from an experienced English major
- Apply for English Tuition Waiver Scholarships!
It doesn't take too much time, and in the past, so few people have applied that every applicant got something. Applications can be obtained from the secretary in the English Department and are usually due by March 1st.

- Talk to your professors in their offices!
They are always friendly, and (get this) they like for you to come see them! Think of something to ask them or talk about, even if you don't have a question. Later, when you are having some trouble, it will be easier to ask for help. It will also make your whole college experience better if you know your teachers.
- Get involved!
in organizations, like the English Society, or other campus activities. Not only do they look good for job applications, they help you feel like a part of the university community.
- Get published!
The New Plains Review is a literary journal published by the UCO English Department and created and edited by students. They publish original essays, poetry, fiction, etc. by UCO students. Go to the New Plains Website for submission information or stop by the New Plains office, 103E.
