The College of Liberal Arts and the English Department of the University of Central Oklahoma are pleased to announce the

 

First Annual

Everett Family Southwest Literary Award

 

The first award of

$5,000

 will be given to an unpublished short story collection.

 

Final Judge: Rilla Askew

 

 

The annual award will alternate among short story, novel, poetry, and biography/ non-fiction genres.

Students and faculty members residing in Oklahoma, New Mexico, or Texas are invited to submit short story manuscripts of between 150-250 pages to:

Individual stories within the collection may be previously published.  Submissions will be accepted August 15-October 15, 2006 with the winner to be announced in early spring 2007. 

 

Please send your manuscript, with your name appearing only on a separate title page, along with a $15.00 submission fee and SASE for notification of contest results.

Make checks payable to the University of Central Oklahoma. 

 All manuscripts will be read anonymously.  Screeners must return any manuscripts familiar or recognizable to them; such manuscripts will be reassigned to a different screener.

 

No current or former paid employee, nor any member of the faculty, nor any student at the University of Central Oklahoma is eligible for the contests.
