Public Debate Series
The Public Debate Series is a response to UCO President Roger Webb's and UCO Vice-President Don Betz's call on the faculty of UCO to raise the level of debate, discussion, and deliberation on our campus. As one of the founding members of the American Democracy Project, UCO has been a leader in this growing movement and the Public Debate Series is one aspect of UCO's commitment to increasing students' level of civic engagement.
Previous public debates have included:
- A three debate series on the American reaction to the terror attacks of September 11th, 2001.
- A Presidential Debate watch party.
- A debate between UCO Debaters and two members of the Japanese National Debate team on violence in the media.
- A debate on gay marriage.
- A debate on the link between fossil fuel use and terrorism.
- A debate about if the United States should become a member of the International Criminal Court.
