INSTITUTE OF HOPE FIGHTING PREJUDICE, POVERTY, AND ABUSE THROUGH EDUCATION

The University of Central Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts is proud to announce the recent formation of the UCO Institute of Hope. Alumnae Beverly Coon (BA ’05), Tina Dobson (BA ’05), and Laura Mitchell (BA’05) created the Institute of Hope to fight prejudice, poverty, and abuse through educational programming and student financial aid.

The Institute sponsored a free viewing of an Academy-Award winning film that addressed the effects of poverty, prejudice, and abuse.

Throughout the year, the Institute will sponsor lecturers, films, and student activities; it will also provide students in special circumstances with tuition and fee waiver scholarships and emergency textbooks funds.

"We are grateful for the foresight of these three alumnae who have realized a need to educate our students, all who will be tomorrow’s leaders, about poverty prejudice and abuse in today’s society," said Dr. Pamela Washington, dean of the UCO College of Liberal Arts.

"The Institute will indeed create hope for a brighter future for many people. The work that is done will have ripple effect throughout the College of Liberal Arts, the university and even into our local communities."
