Everett Family Awards Help Students, Honor Faculty
The Everett family, Dr. Mark Allen Everett and Dr. Howard Dean Everett, presented $2000 in awards and scholarships to University of Central Oklahoma English majors during the College of Liberal Arts' annual Spring Awards Program on April 22, 2006. The Everett family created these awards to honor two former faculty members, Dr. Claude Arnold and Dr. Frank Finney. Dr. Howard Dean Everett was a student of Dr. Arnold and Dr. Finney while majoring in English at Central State University. Dr. Arnold served then-Central State University as associate professor of English for nine years. He was then promoted to professor in 1967, and retired in 1971. Arnold also was a member of the Modern Language Association and the Shakespeare Society. Finney joined Central State University in 1959 as assistant professor of English. In 1965, he was selected as chairperson of the English Department, and in 1971 became the first dean of the newly formed College of Liberal Arts, a position he held until his death in 1984. The awards consisted of a $1000 tuition scholarship and two $500 cash awards. For further information about the awards and scholarship, contact the English department at 405-974-5667. | ||
